Usually shelf life on a product is 5 years if it is not open. Once the product or lipstick is open, its only good for 2 to 3 years. If it is 5 years old, I would discard it. On the box of the product look for a little picture of an open container with a number in it, usually you can find this on the bottom or the back of the box. That number, is the number of months that product is good for once it is open.
