How old should a dog be when his ';lipstick'; comes out??

i have been debating in my mind for a wile whether my dogs age was estimated correctly. he is said to be 13 weeks right about now... But today i noticed his little penis sticking out pretty far! his balls have not descended, is this ok? is it ok for a dog to be so young and have this happen? i know every dog is different, but how old was your dog when you 1st noticed it happen? were his balls descended yet? My puppy wasn鈥檛 humping anything, just sitting down. Im just wondering, and i keep forgetting to ask my vet to estimate his age... :(How old should a dog be when his ';lipstick'; comes out??

You didn't mention what kind of dog it was. If its a small breed, this is pretty normal. If it is a large breed I would expect this around 4-6 months.

He was just cleaning himself. This is completely normal and can happen at almost any age. Neutering has nothing to do with his penis as that procedure is to remove the testicles. Unless he is continuously licking it or unless it gets dry or doesn't ';pop'; back in, there is no need to take him to the vet.

my dog george did.. it is completely normal, take concern when you notice him becoming agressive with his hormones, also when the lipstick has a set of swelling nuts..


about six mths is the estimated timing, remember, your dog will learn most in its first 18 mths, leash train is awsome!
he looks like a JRT mix.. i have two male JRT's that are just now alittle over a year old .. its normal dont worry about it .. they where fixed VERY young.. like as soon as we could get the vet to do it .. i dont think they where even past 6 months old.. and they did it when they were very young as well.. as long as there is no bleeding and everything works its normal...
